The Rosy Side of Things

As I will be going into my second job tomorrow, I have anxiety of course but I'm also hopeful that it will help me take my mind off of things. There has been a lot of changes in my RL recently and adapting to them isn't exactly the easiest thing to ask of me. Just like with any new job I am aiming to make some acquaintances and see if someone might want to grab a good book with me sometime. Sometimes I get scared of the optimism that invades my mind... thinking it might be deceiving me from the truth.. when the reality is that there is no happiness and I'm just lying to myself. For those that know me well....they would know that the Dixie Chicks are something I grew up on and sang on a daily basis. I was told as a child that I was going to grow up to be some amazing singer and that I was going to be the best. I never had any other expectation of myself but to sing, and sing well, otherwise what else was there to live for. When my father passed away that was difficult enough realizing that my purpose to life wasn't just for him, then having jaw surgery alter my vocal chords made it even harder for me to realize that what had been hard wired into me wasn't what I was meant to do. Maybe one day I'll realize that I just need to live to be happy, but nights like this... listening to songs that bring back strong memories...damn I wish I had that voice back.

I love how sometimes you use one pose where it's supposed to be used for something completely different and now I have used it for something else! I know I've been very quiet this month but I've been working on myself and what I want in my life. Also, holidays are either a super happy time for me... or they are a reminder of what I've lost. The fact that I have both sides of the coin gives me a certain perspective on different things we take for granted and the fact that we should all 'seize the moment'. My family IRL might be frustrating to deal with most of the time, but there are those moments that I wouldn't trade for a second. Those are the moments I cling onto whenever I get frustrated or mad at them, those are the moments I hope will give me a light into a very dark world.

There are moments where you just want to sit in front of the fireplace and just reflect on your life. In my case as of right now... I'm thinking about all the happy memories I have of singing Christmas songs and building snow forts/snow dogs/people. Those are the happy memories I always push to the surface this time of year when I start missing my father. It's been years since he died but with each passing year it gets easier and easier to get over the emotions. I remember the short time that I used to play the cello when I was in high school, it was my second favorite instrument. There is something about when a violin and a cello speak to each other that makes my heart sing.
